Traveling Companions

"Traveling Companions" part of Morgan Jones's Masked Series, portrays a ballerina wearing an owl mask riding a Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) streetcar, joined by a slumbering fox and a watchful magpie as unlikely fellow passengers. The scene combines the everyday with the fantastical, set against Chinatown, visible through the vehicle's windows.

Each original piece of art is made by Morgan from start to finish, including the wood panel and floating frame. After mounting the image to the wood panel, Morgan carefully applies several layers of mixed media embellishments such as gel medium, varnish, 12K white gold leaf, and paint.
